Moose Country Guide Sevice offers many types of guided hunting adventures, but specializes in BOWHUNTING for big game. With over three decades of bowhunting experience, your guide knows and understands the added challenges of hunting with archery equipment. Your bowhunting guide has a special passion for hunting with traditional archery equipment which demands the ultimate in stealth and persistence. MCGS also offers rifle & muzzleloader hunts for moose, bear and deer. Obviously, gun hunts offer much greater success rates. Whatever your preferences are for hunting methods, MCGS will tailor a hunt specific to your desires. We offer both fully-guided and semi-guided hunts.

Moose Country Guide Service can provide a semi-guided Moose Hunt, which includes one full day of scouting throughout your assigned zone, along with detailed information about the area and recommendations for hunting techniques. Clients will also be given topo maps of your hunting zone, including detailed maps of the road systems within the hunting area. Clients will also be entitled to our asssistance in the removal of their moose from the field, (as well as transportation of their moose to the check station, if needed). On a Moose Country Guide Service fully-guided Moose Hunt (American Plan), the cost of all meals, lodging and transportation during the hunt, as well as 1x1 guide, recovery and removal of the moose from the field (and transportation of the moose to the check station and butcher if needed) is included. A fully-guided (European Plan) include all the same services as the American Plan except the cost of meals and lodging is not included. The fee for all fully-guided hunts includes both the Permittee and Sub-Permittee. Your guide will transport you to your hunting area and spend each day with you in search of a suitable moose. (*Note - Fully-Guided American Plan may not be available in all moose zones. 1x1 guide means one guide per team of permittee and sub-permittee)

We generally employ spot-and-stalk, calling and still-hunting techniques. Bowhunters will have the option of using treestands and/or ground blinds in addition to spot-and-stalk and/or still-hunting in pursuit of their moose. Trophy bulls are quite plentiful throughout northern New Hampshire and northeastern Vermont. Our hunters that hold either-sex permits can realistically expect to have shot opportunties at bulls from 40" to 55". Bulls with antler spreads in excess of 60" are taken each year from our area. A typical mature bull in our area will likely be 5 1/2+ years old and will have an average B&C or P&Y score in excess of 160" with a few bulls pushing the tape measure near the 200" mark! A picture of the New Hampshire state record bull moose can be viewed here. This bull was taken from one of our primary hunting areas, by two local men (they were not using a guide service). We have personally seen bulls here that will exceed this bull's score!!!

Black bear hunting with either gun or bow is generally done from treestands overlooking a bait station. Bear can also be still or stand hunted near natural food sources. Northern NH and northeastern Vermont are experiencing booming black bear populations in recent years and as a result, the opportunty for a successful hunt are better than ever. Success rates for both types of bear hunts are directly related to the amount of natural feed available to the bear. If the fall season is rich with beechnuts, acorns, berries, apples and corn, the response to a bait site can be limited. However, hunting over these preferred natural food sources can be quite productive. When natural

food is limited, however, bait sites may be visited by multiple bear each day allowing the hunter to pick out a mature trophy male to take.

Whitetail deer hunting in the North Country can be extremely challenging, to say the least. Our "big woods" bucks are big-bodied, with many dressing out in excess of 200 pounds, but they can be difficult to locate and pattern. \In the event of sufficient snow to allow suitable tracking conditions during the gun seasons, a fully-guided day of deer tracking with rifle or muzzleloader can be arranged. Your guide is a very accomplished tracker and has taken many trophy bucks using this method.

Guided Youth Turkey hunts are offered for any kid under 16 years of age during the special youth turkey season. The kids will be given a gun safety overview prior to the hunt and will be supervised at all times while in the field. A parent or guardian may accompany the child for no additional fee. Based on the experience of the youth, a blind may or may not be used. The young hunter will also be given lessons on proper calling techniques.

Guided Coyote hunts are offered from mid-December through March. Clients have the option of hunting with the weapon of their choice, with either rifle or shotgun offering the best opportunity for success. Calling will be the primary method used, with hunting over bait also an option. A good deal of walking is required as several locations will be hunted each day. Snowshoes may be necessary depending on snow conditions. Warm clothes, preferrably in a snow camo pattern, will increase odds of success. Ground blinds may also be employed in areas of limited ground cover or in an archery situation.
